Local Area Employment Service LAES

Galway City Partnership (GCP) is responsible for managing the provision of a Local Area Employment Service throughout Galway on behalf of the Department of Social Protection. We have been delivering Galway City Local Employment Service for the past 25 years and as such are well positioned and enthusiastic about the prospect of developing a new Local Area Employment Service covering Galway City and County.  The Local Area Employment Service can give you the support and guidance you need. We are here to help you get back into employment through one to one career guidance, information and training, education options and employment opportunities that suit you. 

Our Service Statement, presented here, sets out the range of supports and assistance that LAES clients will receive, how these supports will be delivered and the principles and values which underpin our clients engagement and service delivery.

Principles and Values

Our organisation is guided by the core values of equality, human rights, diversity and dignity. These values will at all times inform our engagement with you, our client, and help ensure that we deliver high quality, accessible services that support you in your progression to employment.

Our Core Services

  • Initial One-to-One Meeting with our Client – this introductory meeting between you, the client, and your designated Case Worker will welcome you to the service and will explain the range of supports that will be available to you. Together we will begin exploring your skills, work readiness, areas of interest and barriers to employment.
  • Personal Progression Plan – we will develop, in agreement with you, a Personal Progression Plan (PPP) which will defineyour training and employment goals and a set of actions to achieve them. If you identify barriers to employment we will work with you to overcome them.
  • Education, Training and Work Experience – we will assist you to explore, identify and secure education, training and work experience that build uponyour existing skills, competencies, and interests. This will be guided by the goals agreed in your PPP.
  • Job Search Skills – we will provide capacity building supports to assist you in seeking employment opportunities. This will include CV preparation, interview skills and using job search websites and digital tools effectively to identify suitable employment opportunities.
  • Job Placement and In-Employment Supports – we will assist you in securing employment and prepare you for entering the workplace. We will also continue to provide In-Employment Supports for your initial employment period.
  • Digital Services – we will on occasion, and where required, conduct client engagements and meetings using digital platforms. We will also assist you in using digital tools and online services as part of your training and employment seeking activities.
  • Review Meetings – we will conduct review meetings with you every 20 working days. These review meeting will assess progress being achieved in relation to your training and employment goals.

Our Targeted Services

We also offer a range of targeted services that are designed to assist you to address and overcome some of the complex barriers to employment that you may be experiencing. Our experience has shown such barriers to include disability, mental health issues, racism, literacy, language skills, housing and transport. Galway City Partnership offers a range of targeted services that are designed to address these barriers and also works closely with local specialist agencies, as required – allthese services will be made available to you as our LAES client.

Hours of Service and Accessibility

Our core hours of service will be 9am-5pm Monday – Friday. Out of hours meetings can be facilitated at the request of clients, employers, and local partner services. Our service will cover all of Galway and we have full-time and part-time offices located throughout the City and County. We ensure that we are conveniently based in central town and neighbouring locations. All of our offices are fully wheelchair accessible.

Client Feedback

We welcome and encourage your feedback. In line with our Q-Mark standard, a client satisfaction survey will be carried out each year, as part of our adaptive management approach to the fulfilment of the contract.

Customer Complaints Policy

Our Customer Complaints Policy will be made available to you. We will provide an accessible, transparent, and easy-to-use system of dealing with complaints and ensure that complaints are dealt with in line with our policy and procedures.

All of our referrals come directly from the Department of Social Protection.

 If you are in receipt of a Job Seekers Payment, the Dept. of Social Protection may refer you to our service if your circumstances are deemed appropriate.
