SCCUL Sanctuary Christmas Tree of Lights Launched

The SCCUL Sanctuary’s Christmas Tree of Lights has been launched by former Galway hurling manager, Micheál Donoghue. The initiative will see a 20-foot Christmas tree being placed in the grounds of our Sanctuary here in Kilcornan, Clarinbridge. People are invited to sponsor a light on the tree for a loved one, living or deceased.

During the launch, Micheál Donoghue emphasised the importance of community during these times.

“Like on the playing pitch it is important that we look out for each other. In some ways our local communities are akin to a team too. We need to play together for the benefit of all. If I were in Australia this Christmas, unable to travel home, and received this beautiful Christmas card to say a light was shining for me back home in Ireland, that would give me a tremendous lift. Likewise, for anyone who lost a loved one, this is a very meaningful way to show solidarity with them.”

The Christmas card was designed by Lianna Falk of Kilcolgan Educate Together National School which is located next to the SCCUL Sanctuary.

The lights on the tree will be switched on at 4.30pm on Friday 18th December and will continue to shine until January 7th 2021. A special mass to remember the intentions of those included in the lights will take place at 10am on January 6th 2021 at the Church of the Annunciation, Clarinbridge.

Lights cost €5 each. To sponsor a light, please call William, SCCUL Sanctuary Coordinator, on 087 3466220 or visit the SCCUL Sanctuary between 10am and 1pm [Monday to Friday until December 18th]. Lights may also be sponsored by clicking on the ‘Sponsor a Light’ button below. All proceeds to the SCCUL Sanctuary.

Supporting the Little Owl Club

Over the last few months we have been delighted to be able to support the Little Owls Parents and Toddler Early Communication group. This initiative is run by Voices for Galway and the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland. The group meet fortnightly at the SCCUL Sanctuary. Pictured below setting-up for a recent socially distant session is Julie Holmes.

Thanks to Dara Tobin for putting together this private hire promotional video of the SCCUL Sanctuary. We are now taking private bookings for 2021. All proceeds from such bookings directly subsidise the cost of therapy days for the groups who attend our therapeutic sessions.

We also hope to take therapy day bookings once it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we will continue with our online therapy sessions.
