Healthy Ireland Fund
The Healthy Ireland Fund is a national government programme designed to improve health and wellbeing across Ireland by supporting community-based and local authority-led initiatives.
Operating under the broader Healthy Ireland strategy, it provides funding—mainly through local authorities and Local Community Development Committees—to projects that promote physical activity, mental wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, and social inclusion, with a strong focus on reducing health inequalities and reaching disadvantaged groups.
Currently in its fourth funding round (2023–2025, extended into 2026), the fund has shifted toward an outcomes-based approach, prioritising measurable impacts such as increased activity levels and improved mental health.
It supports a wide range of activities, from small community grants to larger national initiatives like outdoor recreation and sports infrastructure, making it a key mechanism for delivering preventative public health policy at a local level.
